Gloria Bowling, 81, a lifelong resident of Raceland, passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2011, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
She was born November 3, 1929, in Raceland, a daughter of the late Charles and Ruth Stevens.
She was a retired employee of Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital and worked for Owens-Illinois in Huntington, W.Va., for 12 years. She also worked as a tax clerk for the Greenup County Sheriff's Department for eight years. She was a graduate of Raceland High School and a member of Order of Eastern Star. She attended the United Baptist Church of Westwood and enjoyed quilting, gospel music and traveling.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Warren Baldridge, a son, Warren Lee "Butch" Baldridge, and a sister, Betty Waddell.
She is survived by her loving husband of 29 years, Homer Bowling, and a daughter, Kathy (Jim) Rice of Bellefonte, a granddaughter, Libbia (Greg) Maddox of Ashland, a grandson, Chris Baldridge of Austin, TX., a grandson, James (Paige) Rice of Bellefonte, a granddaughter, Jessica Baldridge of Russell, a daughter-in law, Beverly Baldridge of Russell, a stepdaughter, Vicki (Randy) Hollingsworth of Westwood, a step-son, Mike Bowling of Nashville, TN., a step-son, Charles (Sandy) Bowling of Westwood, a step-grandson, Justin Hollingsworth of Flemingsburg, a step-grandson, Joshua (Hadley) Bowling of Cincinnati, OH., a stepgrandson, Kyle Hollingsworth of Westwood, and a stepson, Bradley Bowling of Cincinnati, OH., brothers Charles (Pat) Stevens of Kitts Hill, OH., and James "Jimmy" Stevens of Raceland, sisters, Glena Barker, Patsy Witten and Bonnie Abrams, all of Raceland, and many loving great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and caregivers.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, by J.D. Riggs at the United Baptist Church in Westwood. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.
Visitation from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Steen Funeral Home 13th Street Chapel, Ashland.
