Some information about Martha's father Charles and her brother John Ashley Austin: Her father Charles Austin was born about 1800 in Anson Co. NC. He is in the 1850 NC census with his 2nd wife Abigail. In 1860 he is in Tishimingo Co MS with Abigail and 2 children. His son John was born in Nov. 1847 in NC. Charles' 1st wife Elizabeth Nance died September, 1849 according to the mortality schedule of 1850. Does anyone have a Bible record?

I found Charles paying taxes in McNairy Co TN from 1868 to 1876. John Ashley (his son)had a deed of trust in Sept. 1877 and a child born and died in early 1878 in TN. His land amounts changed between 1876-77 when Charles no longer pays taxes and he, John Ashley, doesn't pay taxes on it in 1879. My thoughts are that Charles died between 1876-77 (don't know the exact dates that taxes were pd) and John Ashley left TN in mid to late 1878-1880 but in TX on or before June 1, 1880 for the TX census. He very possibly went with his niece Margaret A. Brewer (listed below...They were close to the same age). So far I have been unable to find a death date or burial location for Charles or Abigail. She could have died anytime after the 1870 census. I also did not find them in TX with their son. John and his family were in Parker Co TX in 1880 and John died in Childress Co, TX in 1911. John Ashley Austin's memorial is #37016066. From there his family is linked. Please contact me if you have further information.

***Feel very confident that Charles was not returned to NC to be buried. That he was buried in McNairy Co TN somewhere.

***The following info was added to a memorial for Charles. It's be difficult..impossible to get Charles removed from Old Nance Cem.
***Charles' first wife, Elizabeth Nance, passed away in September 1849 of dropsy. She is listed on the US Federal Census Mortality Schedule for the year 1850 in Union County, NC.
