Claire was born on March 22, 1913 to Chester A. and Marie (Danavan) Seyden in San Francisco, CA. During Claire's childhood the Seyden family moved to the East Bay, settling in Oakland. Claire graduated from Roosevelt High School in Oakland in 1931.

Claire married Charles A. Boddy on February 23, 1941. They soon moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, where Charlie taught aerodynamics to student Navy pilots. During their time in Corpus Christi, Claire and Charlie met two special couples, Heath and Gail Angelo and Don and Annette Behurst. They would all be life long friends. Charlie was transferred to a Navy tanker ship, the USS Guadalupe, where he served as Commanding Officer through the end of World War II. Claire returned to her family in Oakland until the war ended.

After the war, Charlie and Claire bought a home on 57th Avenue in Oakland. In 1946, Claire gave birth to twin daughters, Jean Adrianne and Joan Marie. Claire and Charlie were wonderful parents to their girls. In 1953, the family moved to Salinas, CA, where Charlie worked for Growers Container Corporation. Claire was a busy mother, Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, PTA member and hospital volunteer. She also was a wonderful seamstress. She made many of the girls' matching dresses and even created the same for their dolls. Claire continued to stay in touch with neighbors Louis and Jo Ottone and Jim and Marge Kinder.

In 1956, the Boddy family moved to Los Altos, CA where Charlie worked for H & C Engineering. Claire continued her Girl Scout Leader duties and her sewing. In 1961, the family moved to Olympia, WA when Charlie was hired to design, build, and then manage the Georgia-Pacific B box plant in Lacey. They bought a home on South Quince Street in Olympia. The house was quite near Olympia High School, because Jean and Joan were in high school by then.

Claire had a busy life in Olympia. She belonged to the St. Peter Hospital Auxiliary for many years. She volunteered over five thousand hours at the hospital in the gift shop and the Sunshine House. She made many, many big red flannel Christmas socks that were used to send home the babies born at St. Peter Hospital during the Christmas holiday season. Claire was a long time member of First United Methodist Church of Olympia, serving in the Methodist Women and Women's Circle. Claire served as PTA President of Olympia High School as well as serving on the city PTA council. Claire continued to use her sewing skills making prom formals for the girls. Always conscious of styles and their changes, the girls spent many an hour standing at the top of the stairs, while Claire measured hems to the right length.

Claire was a marvelous cook! She made the best cookies! There were always homemade cookies in Claire's kitchen. The girls agree that Claire made the world's most fabulous prime rib dinners. Claire and Charlie enjoyed entertaining family and friends in their home. Claire's cooking made each occasion special! In June of 1964, Claire and neighbor Anabel Neubrech cooked breakfast for entire Senior Class of Olympia High School. The girls invited the entire class to come before school for breakfast. The backyard was filled with young people. Class of '64 still talks about that day.

In the 1960s Charlie and Claire bought a 34 foot cabin cruiser they named "Guad II", after Charlie's oil tanker. They had many, many wonderful trips around the Puget Sound. They took one long trip each summer with Claire's sister, Helen, and brother-in-law, Whitey. Some years they cruised up into Canada. During the days, Claire and Helen would sit at the table making Christmas decorations to be given to the family.

On July 13, 1970, Jean married Albert (Al) Watson. They made their first home at Fort Benning, GA where Al served in the US Army. Claire and Charlie's first grandchild, Karin Watson was born in 1973. Daughter Joan married Robert (Bob) Bower on June 22, 1968. They made their first home in Astoria, OR where Bob served in the U.S. Coast Guard and Joan had her first teaching job. Claire's second grandchild, David Bower, was born in 1975, and third grandchild, Amanda Bower, was born in 1984.

Claire's grandchildren were the joy of her life. All three were able to spend special times with "Grandma Claire". Karin, David, and Amanda all had the privilege of knowing their grandmother well. In the past several years, Claire became great-grandmother to Kayla, Riley, and Collin. How wonderful to see one's children's children and great grandchildren. Karin (Matt) O'Connell live in Kalispell, MT with son Riley (4). David (Mercedes) Bower live in Puyallup, WA with children Kayla (7) and Collin (4). Amanda lives in Olympia and was able to enjoy very special things with her Grandma including Claire attending Amanda's graduation from Eastern Washington University in 2006.

Charlie passed away on May 18, 1980 at St. Peter Hospital. Claire continued to live in her home on South Quince Street until 1996. There were many wonderful times on the block: yard sales, block picnics, hugs, and borrowing ingredients for recipes. Her many special neighbors the Dees, the Sabos, and the Andersons took special delight in Claire's loving kindness and good sense of humor.

In 1996, Claire decided she no longer needed such a big house and sold it, moving to a lovely duplex in Tumwater. After a few years, Claire moved to Madrona Beach to a lovely little house next door to Joanie and Bob. She lived there almost ten years. She was able to have her independence, but her family was quite near if she needed anything.

Claire had five special girlfriends who met once a month for lunch. They rotated the lunch between their six homes. The "Lunch Girls" had many special times together. They included Claire, Deanna Hoffman, Carol Getchman, Onalee Hayner, Kathleen Fitchett, and Donna VanNoy. Special friends and wonderful memories.

On March 22, 2008, Claire celebrated her 95th birthday with her girl's families, nephew Dick (Sally) Olsen from California, and dear friends, Ed and Carolyn Dee. Claire said it was the best birthday she had ever had.

On April 1, 2008, Claire fell in her kitchen, fracturing her pelvis in three places. She was taken to St. Peter Hospital and then to Morther Joseph Care Center. Claire passed away peacefully and gracefully on Sunday, May 25, 2008 at 4:15 p.m. Jean was with her at the time. Joan had been there only hours before.

Claire was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie in 1980. Two sisters, Eloise G. Deeths (Harry), Helen D. Olsen (Whitey), nephews William Deeths, and Norman Olsen.

Claire is survived by her twin daughters, Jean Watson (Al) of Vancouver, WA, and Joan Bower (Bob) of Olympia. Three grandchildren: Karin O'Connell (Matt) of Kalispell, MT, David Bower (Mercedes) of Puyallup, WA, and Amanda Bower of Olympia. Three great grandchildren: Kayla Bower, Riley O'Connell, and Collin Bower.
