Indian Wars Medal of Honor Recipient. Born in New York City, he served as a Private in Company D, 7th Calvary, US Army. During the Battle of the Little Big Horn Montana, on June 25, 1876, Private Brant brought water for the wounded under heavy enemy fire. For most prestigious gallantry, he was to be awarded the Medal of Honor on October 5, 1878. He died the night before he was to receive the Medal of Honor in a shooting accident while passing his revolver to the First Sergeant at Camp J.G. Sturgis, Dakota Territory.
