Civil War Union Army Officer, US Congressman. Served during the Civil War as Colonel and commander of the 77th New York Volunteer Infantry. He was elected as a Republican to represent New York's 15th District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from March 4, 1859 to March 3, 1863.
