James and Jim Guild were my fathers boss' at the block company. They were the owners and he was the Superintendant. He worked for them for over 30 years and quit do to bad health. He loved working there and got along well with John and Jim. He did come back to Iowa to help them out a few times, but only for short periods of time. Here is James memorial from the newspaper.
ROCK ISLAND — James J. "Judd" Guild, 93, of Rock Island, died Friday, Sept. 23, 2011, at his home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. on Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rock Island. Burial is at Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island, where a rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rock Island, St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island, or to a favorite charity.
Mr. Guild was born on April 14, 1918, in Rock Island, a son of John and Bernice McCarthy Guild.
He graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting. He co-founded with his brother, John, Iowa-Illinois Concrete Products, Bettendorf, in 1947. Judd retired in 1981.
He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, served as a Captain and received the Philippines Liberation Medal, Air Medal, Bronze Star, Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal with three Bronze Stars and four Overseas Service Bars. Judd was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rock Island, and also attended St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. He supported many local and Catholic charities.
Judd was always there for the family in times of need and was beloved by all who knew him. He will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his nieces and their husbands, Lucia and Donald Otto, Rocky River, Ohio, Laurie Burdick, Silver Spring, Md., and Catherine and Robert Schlichting, Davenport; his nephew, Robert Guild, and his wife, Jane, Bettendorf; 14 great nieces and great nephews; and 13 great great nieces and great great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, John Guild, dear friend and sister-in-law, Marjorie Guild, and nephew, John A. "Tony" Guild.
