Pvt Joe M. Attebery

US Army World War II Veteran. Joe Attebery was born near Akron, Colorado. He was inducted in the US Army June 16, 1943, his basic training was done at Ft. Knox, Kentucky. He left the United States in early June 1944, going first to England and from there to France in August. Private Attebery served with the 48th Infantry Battalion, 7th Armored Division and had been wounded in actions near Marieulles, on September 16, 1944. He died of his wounds in a hospital the next day and was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
