In April 1853, she and her husband brought their growing family west from Iowa to the Oregon Territory by Ox-Drawn Wagon following the Oregon Trail. Elizabeth's husband Nelson was voted Captain, because of his experience following the trail on earlier Wagon Train expeditions. They arrived at their destination in late September and settled in Springfield, Lane, Oregon which was her home until her death.
Elizabeth and Nelson would have a large family, with these 12 known children:
Rebecca Ann, b. 1847; William N. b. 1849; Albert Daniel, b. 1851; Susanna Olive, b. 1853; John Harding, b. 1855; Sarah E. b. 1856; George Elliot, b. 1859; Mary Augusta, b. 1860; Edward Baker, b. 1862; Martha Viola, b. 1865; Harmon Irvin, b. 1867; Jesse Araville, b. 1868.
On 6 May 1866, Elizabeth was baptized into the Fellowship of the First Baptist Church of Eugene City. "A devout Christian, the 'burthen' of her prayer was for the patience to wait until the time of her departure", as written by her brother, the Baptist Minister George Washington Bond for her obituary. First published in the Oregon State Journal on 29 Jun 1872, it also appeared in the Oregonian and the Christian Advocate. Her photograph here is dated 1869, three years before she passed away at the age of 42 years, 4 months and 5 days, after suffering from a long and painful illness. The photo is part of a collection of family photos that had belonged to her niece Martha Luella 'Ella" Alkire/Davis.
