Henderson was in a card game sometime around Christmas 1908. In which he accused a man named Owen Worley of cheating. Henderson was riding his horse the day after the card game near a farm owned by another man in the card game by the name of Vaughn. As he was riding pass the barn on Vaughn's farm, Owen Worley stepped out and shot Henderson. Henderson was unarmed. As reported in the Wayne County Outlook Newspaper on Thursday, September 30, 1909, Owen Worley's trial ended in a hung jury and never served time for Henderson Coffey's death. Henderson died from his wounds on January 5, 1909.
