Indian Mutiny Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a Sergeant-Major in the 53rd Regiment, King's Shropshire Light Infantry. On November 17, 1857, at Lucknow, India, Sergeant-Major Pye under fire continued bringing up ammunition to the Mess House and on every occasion when the Regiment was engaged. For gallantry in the face of the enemy, he was awarded the Victoria Cross Medal and later promoted Lieutenant.
