The Waterloo Evening Courier, Saturday, May 4, 1912

Mrs. Conrad Widmann, 421 Florence street, a resident of Black Hawk county since the early 70's and and active member of the Immanuel German Evangelical Luteran church since its organization, passed away this morning at 6 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles Eickelberg, 427 Albany street, where she had been cared for during the past ten weeks of her last illness.

Mrs. Widmann had been in failing health since the tragic death of her son, Policeman Fred Widmann, who was killed four years ago this fall while on duty. Since January, she had grown worse and, of late, the family had realized that the end was near. Dropsy and complications were the cause of her death.

As she has lived so long in the county, she leaves a wide circle of friends to mourn her passing. She was devoted to her home, but also took an active interest in her church and in the Ladies' Sewing society as long as her health permitted.

Mary Dorothy Koepke was born in Sukwitz, Mechlenburg Schwerin, Germany, on March 14, 1848. She came to this country when twenty-four years of age and the family lived first on a farm in Black Hawk township. She was married Sept. 15, 1874 to Conrad Widmann, and they lived on farms in Black Hawk, Fox and East Waterloo townships, coming to Waterloo fifteen years ago.

The husband survives, together with one daughter and three sons. These are Mrs. Charles Eickelberg and Walter Koepke of Waterloo, and Gus and William, at home. Fred, the oldest son, died four years ago, and two children died in infancy. Two brothers and two sisters are also left to mourn. These are F.J. Keopke, Waterloo; Henry, Althena, Ore.; Mrs. Louisa Schneply, Ellensburg, Wash.; and Mrs. Chris Venter, near Waterloo. Mrs. Widmann's father died in 1888 and her mother many years ago. Her step-mother, Mrs. Sophia Koepke, survives at the age of 88 and makes her home with Mrs. Venter.

The funeral will be held Monday afternoon, services at the home, 424 Florence street, being at 1:30 and at the church at 2 o'clock, Rev. Theodore Wolfram will conduct the funeral and the burial will be in Fairview cemetery at the side of her son.
