"He was a blacksmith by trade in his young manhood, and entered into partnership with his brother, George Edward, in the carriage and wagon business in Saline. After about 7 years the partnership was dissolved, and he purchased a ranch at Clint, El Paso County, Texas. In 1931 he moved to the Village of Clint."

He was buried in Forest Hill cemetery, Ann Arbor, Washtenaw, MI, on his wife's father's farm.
