Norma grew up with her sister, Janet Miller Reasor, working on the farm with their parents. Norma graduated from Kenesaw High School in 1950. After high school she attended The University of Nebraska at Kearney earned a teaching certificate, and taught at the Miller Schoolhouse for a few years.
Norma met her future husband, Robert Jacobs, when he offered to help at the school. They fell in love and were married in June, 1953, after which the couple lived on a farm near Shelton. They had two children, Michael and Trudy. In 1963 they moved to another farm north of Gibbon. Norma worked hard on the farm raising the children, tending her large garden, and doing chores.
Norma and Robert divorced in 1976, and Norma moved to Axtell where she began working as a cosmetologist in the Minden area. After moving to Kearney, she worked in retail spending most of her career at Kmart and Hobby Lobby. Norma took great pride in managing her assigned area at Kmart and was recognized as Employee of the Month many times.
Norma enjoyed telling and hearing stories about ancestors from both the Miller and Brittin sides. She took great pride in the fact that the Miller side of her lineage homesteaded the land where she grew up. Wanting to preserve the Miller homestead property, Norma and her sister, Janet decided to sell to the Nature Conservancy so the land would remain in its unspoiled state and be protected.
Norma loved to read mystery and romance novels and also spent time doing crafts of all types. She especially enjoyed crocheting and sewing having made all the children's clothes as they grew up. Her love of animals led her to enjoy the companionship of many pets: BD the bulldog was with her many years as were Marilyn the cat, and most recently, Libby the cat who stayed with her in Bethany Home. Norma fussed over her pets constantly and devoted most of her time and attention to their needs.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents, son, Michael, and former husband, Robert Jacobs.
Norma is survived by her sister, Janet Reasor of Los Osos, Calif.; daughter, Trudy Jacobs, spouse, Terry Luttrell, their daughter, Sarah Jacobs-Luttrell of Sacramento, Calif.; niece, Shawn Chapman and nephew, Brad Reasor, both of Atascadero, Calif.; and children of Michael Jacobs, Taylor, Tiffany and Tia of Missouri.
Norma was a resident at Bethany Home and had been suffering from dementia. Per her wishes, Norma was cremated and will be buried in the Kenesaw Cemetery next to her son, Michael.
