Bob was born in Lidgerwood, N.D., on May 16, 1927, to Alfred W. and Mildred B. Johnson. His family moved to Lewistown when he was eight years old.

Bob spent summers on such jobs as a logger felling trees in Washington state at the age of 15, as well as surveying in Glacier National Park. He graduated from Fergus County High School in 1944.

After graduation, Bob worked as a staff announcer in 1947 at KXLO Radio, when it first went on the air. After spending one year at Montana State University (MSU), Bob joined the Navy at age 18, and served at the Naval Training Center in San Diego, Calif. After discharge, he returned to MSU and joined an Air Force ROTC unit. When the war in Korea began, Bob was commissioned an Air Force Second Lieutenant with duty in Korea, where he met his future wife, Red Cross volunteer Anita Zimmerman of Portland, Ore. They were married in 1952, and he served the remainder of his military service commitment at McChord Air Force Base in Tacoma, Wash.

Upon his discharge, Bob returned to MSU and graduated in 1952. He then attended law school at Willamette University, graduating in 1958. Returning to Lewistown, Bob joined the law firm of Dekalb, Dockery and Mondale, but eventually established his own practice, which he continued until his death.

Bob was active in a variety of pursuits; obtaining his pilot's license at age 16, he remained passionate about aviation, eventually achieving an Airline Transport Pilot's certification. He was known throughout the state for his service and mentorship in the Civil Air Patrol and other Montana Aviation organizations.

Bob was a longtime volunteer in area Boy Scouts, which culminated in his selection as the State President, Boy Scouts of Montana. Other service included the Rotary Club (for more than 50 years), president of the Lewistown Chamber of Commerce, Elks Lodge 456, Masonic Orders and the Shrine Al Bedoo Temple.

He was a former member of the Presbyterian Church, but currently belonged to the Zion Lutheran congregation. Bob loved music, and sang with church choirs and in area events such as the Christmas Cantata and the Follies. He was an avid sportsman - he played basketball at MSU and at the Naval Training Center, and was a regular supporter of the Fergus High School athletics programs. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and in general relished life in Montana.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Stanley Warren Johnson, who died in combat in World War II.

Memorial donations may be made in Bob's name to the Zion Lutheran Church, 604 West Evelyn St., Lewistown, MT 59457.
