Angelita Gutiérrez Olivas, 88 years of age and lifelong resident of La Jara, NM, passed away very peacefully on Sunday, March 26, 2006 in Albuquerque, NM.
Angelita was preceded in death by her parents, Epifanio Gutiérrez in 1988 and Agapita Aragón Gutiérrez in 1966.
Angelita had four brothers who also preceded her in death, Rudy Gutiérrez in 1994, Anselmo Gutiérrez who passed away in World War II, Gilbert Gutiérrez in 2005 and her little brother, George Gutiérrez, who passed away in infancy.
Angelita was married to William Olivas in her early 20s and was widowed a year later. Angelita did not have any children and never remarried.
Angelita, affectionately known as Ita, is survived by her nephews, Sam Gutiérrez of La Jara, nephew, Rudy Gutiérrez Jr. and his wife, Annie of Albuquerquee, niece, Judy Casaus and her husband, Abencio of Cuba and niece, Gloria Domínguez and Manuel Salazar of Albuquerque. Angelita is also survived by numerous other nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Angelita retired after 44 years with La Jara and Cuba schools as both a teacher and a principal and taught hundreds and hundreds of the village residents in her classrooms.
Angelita was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church in La Jara and a long time member of the American Legion Auxiliary Association of Cuba.
Angelita loved to garden and frequently provided arranged flowers from her garden for the Fiestas at the church. We never really knew if liked to cook but certainly no one ever left her home without having a meal and many times taking along a snack for the road. Her home was always filled with family and she welcomed them all.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 28, 2006 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Santo Niño Catholic Church in La Jara, with a Rosary recited by the Guadalupanos to follow at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. by Father John Boland at the Santo Niño Catholic Church with interment to follow in Santo Niño Mission Cemetery in La Jara, NM. Pallbearers will be her great-nephews, Paul Gutiérrez, Peter Gutiérrez, Chris Casaus, James Casaus, Pablo Velared and Daniel Gutiérrez. Honorary Pallbear is Randy Velarde Jr. Reception will follow at La Jara Community Hall.
