Nigeria Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a Lieutenant in the Queen's Royal West Surrey Regiment, attached Northern Nigerian Regiment. At Nigeria on February 26, 1903, Lieutenant Wright, with one other officer and 44 men, sustained the determined charges of 1,000 horse and 2,000 foot enemy for two hours. When the enemy, after heavy losses, fell back, Lieutenant Wright continued to follow them until they were in full retreat resulting in success of the affair. For skilled leadership and gallantry in action, he was decorated with the Victoria Cross Medal by HM King Edward VII at Buckingham Palace in November 1903. He retired from the Army in September 1940, as Brigadier General in command of the 8th Infantry Brigade.
