Marlin (Zim) Zimmerman, formerly of Halifax, died peacefully, June 5, 2013. Currently he resided at Elmcroft of State College, an assisted living facility. Marlin was born in Halifax Township, Sept. 15, 1922, son of the late Clair and Mahala (Burrell) Zimmerman. He attended Pennsylvania State University where he received a B.S. in Agriculture Education and an M.S. in Education.After graduation from Penn State, he served in the Army during World War II as a first lieutenant in the Third Infantry Regiment. He taught Vocational Agriculture for 10 years at Perry Joint High School in New Bloomfield. He served the Halifax Area High School District for 10 years as a high school principal, followed by 11 years as a superintendent. Marlin was very active in his community. He was a director of the Halifax National Bank, treasurer for 17 years for the Halifax United Methodist Church, a member and past president of the Twin Valley Lions Club, member of the Tall Cedars, a Shriner and served on the Dauphin County Board of Housing and Redevelopment. Marlin is preceded by his wife of 56 years, Winifred Spahr Zimmerman, and his son Gary, who died while serving as a cadet at the United States Air Force Academy. He is survived by his son, Mark, and a daughter, Suzanne St. Pierre; two grandsons, Matthew and Jeffrey Shoemaker; and three great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at Halifax U.M. Church on Saturday, June 29, 2013, at 10 a.m., with visitation from 9 to 10 a.m. Inurnment with military honors will be held at the church cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. BOX 758517, Topeka, KS 66675. Hoover-Boyer Funeral Homes Inc., Millersburg, handled the arrangements.
