Alan Harry Olson, 74, of Cable, Wis. passed away Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family.

Alan "Oop" Olson was born Dec. 13, 1936 in Superior, Wis. the son of Arnold "Buck" and Margaret (Anderson) Olson. He grew up and attended school in Port Wing, Wis. After graduation from South Shore High School, Alan went to work for Chequamegon Telephone Cooperative in Cable as a lineman. He worked for just a few months before joining the U.S. Army in January of 1955. During his time in the service Alan was stationed in Germany with the Army 10th Infantry Division Heavy Mortar Company. He was honorably discharged in November of 1957 and returned to Port Wing where he met and later married Constance "Connie" Ann O'Connell on Jan. 5, 1963.

Alan returned to work for Chequamegon Telephone as a lineman and installer repairman. In 1963, Alan and Connie moved to Cable and Alan was promoted to Central Office Technician. During his time with Chequamegon Telephone Alan continued to be promoted and became Plant Superintendent for five years and then General Manager for 23 years. In 1994 Alan was named the Chief Executive Officer for the company and held this position until his retirement in 1995.

Throughout his life Alan enjoyed meticulously maintaining his home, yard and vehicles. He always had a witty comeback fitting for any situation. He loved to golf, travel and spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was very active in his service to voluntary positions, civic organizations and contributions to the community including: Cable American Legion Post #487, Voiture Locale 1200 Sawyer/Bayfield County Forty and Eight, Cable Area Lion's Club, Village of Cable Board Supervisor, Cable Volunteer Fire Department and the Cable Area Chamber of Commerce.

Alan is survived by his wife of 48 years, Connie; two children, Deanne (Jamie) Arnold of Hayward, Troy (Laura) Olson of Cable; four grandchildren, Keaton, Emma, Wyat and Derek; three stepgrandchildren, Jamey Lee, Caston, and Berkeley; one great-grandchild, Gabriel; and several nieces; nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral: Memorial services will be held 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 30, 2011 at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Cable with Sister Virginia Schwartz and Father Dean officiating.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at St. Ann's.

Burial will be in the St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery in Cable. Military Honors will be presented by the Cable American Legion Post #487.
