MACON- Leonard Jackson McDaniel, 76, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 24, 2011. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, September 27, 2011, at Lawrence Drive Baptist Church with the Rev. Brad Marchman officiating. Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.

Leonard was born on October 25, 1934 to the late Joseph Jackson McDaniel and Grace Brewton McDaniel in Evans County, Hagan, Georgia. Leonard met the Late Betty Carolyn Rogers while they were in high school. Leonard graduated high school, he joined the United States Air Force and then returned to marry his high school sweetheart on November 20, 1955 at Shiloh Methodist Church in Reidsville, Georgia. Mr. McDaniel was a faithful and loyal veteran of the United States Air Force, who retired after 26 years of service. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and of several tours during Vietnam. He received many distinguished medals and awards throughout his career. During his years in the Air Force he was also stationed in mainland Japan, Okinawa and the Philippines. While in Japan, Leonard and his wife Betty lost a son Scott Gregory McDaniel. They were stationed several times in Savannah at Hunter Army Airfield, Myrtle Beach Air Force Base and Robins Air Force Base. He retired to Macon. Soon After retiring from the United States Air Force, Leonard was hired by the Federal Aviation Administration as a ground controller. He then moved back to Pooler, Georgia to work at the Savannah Airport. After 16 years with the FAA he retired again with 42 years of government service. He moved back to Macon, Georgia and bought some land and decided to build their dream home to live out their days. At the time of his death, he was a member of Lawrence Drive Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and where he regularly attended services until he was unable because of his illness.

Leonard is survived by his three children: Leonard "Jack" McDaniel, Jr. (Marleen), Thomas "Wayne" McDaniel and Karen Elizabeth Tootle (Mike); Grandchildren: Scott McDaniel (Christie), Shawn McDaniel, Melissa M. Castle (Travis), Thomas McDaniel and Justin Tootle; one great-grandson: Hunter McDaniel; brother; Jimmy McDaniel (Betty) of Phenix City, Alabama; Several nieces and nephews.
