E. S. LaSalle Dies at 66

Edward S. LaSalle, 66, Evans Mills, Route 2, died at 6:25 this morning in the House of the Good Samaritan following a lengthy illness. Mr. LaSalle, a truck driver, had not been well since receiving injuries in a serious accident June 1, 1964.

He had recently undergone heart surgery at Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse, and was last admitted to the House of the Good Samaritan Sept. 11.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Hilda H. LaSalle [sic], five daughters Mrs. Alice Husson, Selkirk, Route 2; Mrs. Louis (Hilda) LaFevre, Albany; the Misses Kay Ellen, Sue Ann and Linda LaSalle, at home; a son, Milton LaSalle, at home; a step-daughter, Mrs. Thomas (Frances) Green, San Angelo, Tex.; a step-son, Gerrold Hamilton, LaFargeville, Route 1; nine grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Pearle Featherstone, Brown Nursing Home, Adams Center; a brother, Floyd LaSalle, 420 Washington St.; a half-sister, Mrs. Carl (Beulah) Roof, 117 E. Main St., and a half brother, Carman E. Featherstone, 1221 Myrtle Ave.

The funeral for Mr. LaSalle will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Cleveland-McCallen Funeral Home with Rev. Richard P. Prue, pastor, First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Calcium Cemetery.

Born May 5, 1904, in Waterbury, Conn., a son of Willard and Pearl Drew LaSalle, he moved to Ellenburg with his parents as a child. He attended schools in Ellenburg and Malone. His first marriage ended in divorce.

On March 26, 1946, he married Mrs. Hilda Howes Hamilton in the parsonage of the First Baptist Church with Rev. Hale F. Thornberry officiating. Mr. LaSalle began his truck driving career in 1928, moving to Watertown in 1929 where he was employed by Moore Northern Haulers, now Northern Haulers Corp.

Mr. LaSalle was employed by various trucking firms including Smith Transport, Ltd., and owned his own vehicle the last few years of his employment. He had only worked part time following the 1964 accident and had been seriously ill the past two years.

He was a member of the Truck Drivers and Helpers Union.
