Charles Edward Sanders was the son of John Henry (1840-1918) and Emily Jane Clement Baker Sanders (1850-1935). He was brother to Adelia Dell (1880- ), Nancy Belle (1883-1974), and Walter Forest Sanders (1893-1963). He was half brother to Cora Jane Baker (1866-1935), James Elmer Baker (1868- ), Minerva M. Baker (1870- ), Lonzo G Baker (abt 1871- ), and Jerome M Baker (1872- ). He was also half brother to Carver C. Sanders (abt 1871- ).
He married Mabel Leona Burk (1893-1936) on 19 Jun 1910 in Knoxville, Marion, Iowa. They were the parents of Irene Mary (1914-1917), Carver Claude (1916-1961), Lillian Lorene (1918-1983), Gerald Fremont (1923-1993), Betty Jean (1925-2007), Ronald Munson (1929-1929), and Donald Eugene Sanders (1932-1986).
He was employed most of his life as a house painter and paper hanger. Those who remember him recall him as a cheerful and peaceable man, usually with a trademark (and mostly unlit) cigar clamped between his teeth.
He died on 15 Apr 1954 of a blow to the head caused by an unknown assailant who robbed him. His body was deposited in the Des Moines River and was not discovered for about a week. His murder case remains unsolved to this day.
