Hubert Leo Buehler, 90, passed away September 17, 2011 and Cleadythe Lorraine Wagner Buehler, 86, passed away September 19, 2011. A visitation will be held Friday, September 30 from 6 to 8 p.m., with funeral services Saturday, October 1 at 10 a.m., at the Ankeny Memorial Gardens Chapel located at 4208 N. Ankeny Blvd. in Ankeny.

Hubert was born in Latham, Illinois on August 18, 1921 to Louis and Estelle Buehler. He graduated from high school in Alleman, Iowa. A World War II Navy Veteran, Hubert served our country in the Pacific, then returned to Ankeny and married his sweetheart Cleadythe Lorraine Wagner on June 6, 1947. Hubert became a bricklayer and stone mason, was a member of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local 3, and retired after 40 years working for Knutson Construction, Neumann Brothers, and Forrest and Associates Masonry. He was a member of Golden Kiwanis and served as founding Cub Master and Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 182.

Cleadythe was born in Des Moines on February 3, 1925 to Harry and Helena Wagner who were one of the founding families of Ankeny. She graduated from Ankeny High School in 1943 as class Valedictorian. Cleadythe was an A.A.U. National Women's basketball superstar for eight years playing for Pepsi Cola, Dr. Swetts, Hopkins Sporting Goods, Central National Bank, Sander's Motors and AIB. She was also a homemaker and 22 year Northwestern Bell retiree and member of Communication Workers of America. She served as President of the Ankeny High School Band Parents and PTA, as well as President of the Ankeny Alumni Association.

They had great fun working together in their busy and active lives. They participated in numerous organizations including American Legion Post 42 and Auxiliary Unit for over 60 years, Boy Scouts of America 182 for 17 years, Campfire Girls for twelve years, founding members of Ankeny Area Historical Society, and Telephone Pioneers of America and their Clown Group. They volunteered in support of many charitable causes. They were lifetime members of the Ankeny First United Methodist Church and Ruth Circle. Both enjoyed serving as chaperones for the United Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF) and school band trips. The family cabin on Lake Washburn in Minnesota, their winter home in Mesa, Arizona, cruising with family and friends to numerous exotic locations, gardening and nature were loves they shared.

Hubert is predeceased by his parents, brothers William and Robert and sister Dorothy Sliekers. Cleadythe is predeceased by her parents and brother Thurston Wagner.

They are survived by daughter, Deetra (Dave) Polito of Mesa, AZ and son, Lex (Debra) of Copperas Cove, TX, grandchildren Justin of Mesa, AZ and Travis (Dominique) and great-grandson, Hayden Buehler of Copperas Cove, TX. They are also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
