Annie Bednar was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia. Her family emigrated to the U.S. in 1892 when she was about 9 months of age. The family settled in Shiner, Texas and in 1909 she married Edward F. Halamicek. The couple eventually settled in Gonzales, Texas where Ed opened Halamicek Auto Supply and Annie operated a beauty shop in their home. They had four children:

Roy Edward Halamicek - 1910-1972
Fred Wilton Halamicek - 1913-1995
Mabel Lillian Halamicek - 1915-1995
Erna Mae Halamicek - 1917-1960

To her children she was "Mama", but everyone else called her Annie. To her grandchildren, she was our beloved "Mamo."
