GLADYS "PINKY" EILERS

ALCESTER, S.D. --- Gladys M. "Pinky" Eilers, 99, of Alcester died Thursday, May 13, 1999, at Morningside Manor Nursing Home in Alcester.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Nathaniel Lutheran Church in Alcester. Burial will be before the service in Grace Hill Cemetery, Hawarden, Iowa.

Visitation will begin at noon on Monday at Wass Funeral Home in Alcester, with the family present 7 to 8 p.m. There will be no viewing at the church.

Mrs. Eilers was born Aug. 9, 1910, on a farm south of Akron, Iowa, the daughter of Raymond and May (Wagner) Ogden. She attended schools in Akron and graduated from Akron High School in 1928. She then taught in rural schools in the area for two years.

She married Clarence Eilers in 1930. The couple farmed in the Hawarden, Iowa, and Alcester areas. Prior to her husband's death, the couple enjoyed winters in Texas.

She was a member of Nathaniel Lutheran Church in Alcester, where she was an active member of many women's groups. She also enjoyed extension clubs and the Senior Citizens.

During her retirement years she enjoyed playing golf, bowling and cards.

Survivors include three sons, Jerry and his wife, Marge, of Alcester, Eldon and his wife Karen, of Phoenix, and Dennis of Denver; two brothers and their wives, Bartley and Mamie Ogden of Odebolt, Iowa, and Gene and Roberta Ogden, of Arlington, Va.; a sister-in-law, Luella Wilkison of Hawarden, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Oma Gassman; and a great granddaughter, Kristen Pritchard.
