Last residence: 1916 Vassar Avenue, Glendale, CA. Born Shelby, Richland County, OH, the fourth of five children to James Peter GARDNER Sr. and Katherine Rose GABRIEL (h&w).

Henry Joseph was the GRANDSON of John Joseph GABRIEL and Magdalena M. ZEIDLER, who emigrated from Bohemia--John Joseph from Wilkischen and Magdalena M. from Meschowitz; they met in Ohio and married at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Plymouth, Richland County, OH, Nov 04 1874.

Henry Joseph was the GREAT-GRANDSON of John GABRIEL and Margaret BAUMOEL (h&w) and also the GREAT-GRANDSON of Joseph ZEIDLER and Cathrian MACH (h&w)--none of Henry's GREAT-GRANDPARENTS ever immigrated into America.

Henry Joseph took "Eugene" for his Sacrament-of-Confirmation name at St. Rose of Lima Church, Lakewood, Cuyahoga County, OH, Diocese of Cleveland.

Henry Joseph married Mary Jean ROBINSON (born 1919 in Chicago, Cook County, IL, to John Harry ROBINSON and Helen BISHOP BAISLEY (h&w)--both from Wyandotte, Wayne County, MI). At Most Pure Heart of Mary's Catholic Church, Shelby, Richland County, OH, April 06 1940, Best Man was brother of the groom James Peter GARDNER Jr., Maid of Honor was Cecilia Joan SUTTER, and Groomsman was John SCHILTZ of Canton, Stark County, OH, cousin of the groom. The newly-married couple made their first home with the groom's parents in their farmhouse located on the rural Vernon West Road, Shelby, Richland County, OH.

Henry Joseph enlisted in the US Navy: 10-13-1943 to 12-20-1945, Engine Machinist's lst Class. Training/Duty Stations at VA, RI, MS, TX, and aboard Torpedo Boat Tender USS Portunus AGP-4. Navy medals received: World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, and Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal.

After military service, Henry was employed as a draftsman/mechanical engineer at Airmatic Valve Inc., a manufacturer of hydraulic valves and cylinders, located in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, OH. Due to his sheer innate intelligence, Henry progressed to Aeronautical Engineer at Lockheed Aircraft Co., California.

Survived by wife Mary Jean (1919-2006), daughters Charlene GARDNER LOWEN, Colorado, Anita GARDNER POMERANTZ, California, and Katherine GARDNER SPENCER, Nevada (2012 locations).

Henry's Siblings: Lawrence Henry (1910-1977), Leo John (1913-1956), James Peter Jr. (1916-1979), and Mary Catherine (1925-1925), all of Ohio.

Henry was preceded in death by his father (1885-1950), mother (1886-1959), brother Leo, and newborn sister Mary.

Cause of Death: Coronary Occulsion, Myocardial Ischemia: Dr. Christopherson, Sun Valley Hospital ER, Los Angeles County, CA. Glendale Mortuary Inc. (Woods-Scovern Mortuary), Mr. BYERS. Funeral Mass at Holy Trinity Church, Glendale, CA.
