Parke Daniel Alston, son of Parke Daniel Alston, Sr. and the former Nellie Walton, was born Christmas Day 1918 in Starkville, Mississippi. Parke was the second of four children. His father worked for the Illinois Central Railroad and the family settled in Edwards, Mississipi. It was here in Edwards, that Parke and his brother and two sisters where raised and attended school.
When World War II started, Parke enlisted in the United States Navy and served on the USS Aldebaran, as a Machinist's Mate 1st Class.
