Joyce attended Brookside High School and Baxter Business College. She had been employed by the old Elyria Lace for many years where she met her husband, Samuel Avery whom she married in 1950. Following the closing of Elyria Lace, they moved to Bridgeport, Connecticut, where they both continued working in the Lace industry.
She was a member of the old Washington Church of Christ, and had attended the Avon United Methodist Church.
Joyce is survived by her brother, William Johnson of Elyria; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel in 1984; her parents, Earl and Florence (nee Fridenstine) Johnson; sister, Lois Johnson. Graveside services will be held at a later date.
