Jazz Musician. He is considered a trumpet playing legend by musicians around the world. The son of a police officer and a Louisiana girl from the country, his father gave him a trumpet when he was 6 years old. He received his doctorate in Performing Arts from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati. He not only performed with symphony orchestras, but played any and all kinds of music the world over. Besides the jazz venues, he also appeared in movies and on television. He was a Grammy winner and is in the International Jazz Hall of Fame. The city of New Orleans and the state of Louisiana honored him with a life size bronze statue in the new Legends Park in New Orleans. Nicknamed "Jumbo", he was without a doubt one of the greatest trumpet players in the world because of his diversity and ability. He will always be remembered as a kind, caring man who gave much more than he ever took.
