William Heximer worked as a plumber in Chippewa, New York. He owned and operated his own plumbing business for a number of years. He later became a caretaker at King George Public School in Chippawa. He was actively involved in harness racing for many years. He served as Chief of the Chippawa Volunteer Fire Department for several years (the first chief). The fire station is where the Chippawa Library now stands.
