COX, Mattie Beatrice Smith, 91, of Roanoke, formerly of Vinton and Bedford Co., died Friday, March 3, 1995, after a lengthy illness at Friendship Health Care Center. She was the widow of Plateau Preston Rex Cox. She was a longtime member of Mays Memorial United Methodist Church and was a Past Noble Grand of Harmony Rebekah Lodge #36 of Stewartsville. Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Imogene and Michael Burnette of Richmond, Eunice and Alburn Smith of Vinton, Joanna and William Caldwell of Roanoke; also nine grandchildren, Alice B. Christian, New Canton, Donna B. Moore of Amelia, Michael Burnette of Fredericksburg, Peggy Smith Stovall of Vinton, Molly Smith Rhodes of Vinton, William Caldwell Jr. of Houston, Texas, Greg Caldwell of Williamsburg, Jodi Caldwell Austin of Forest, Kay Caldwell of Roanoke; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild. Graveside services will be conducted at Mountain View Cemetery
