Alois "Al Harter, 58, of rural Stewartville died Monday morning, February 9, 2005, at the Rochester Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.

Al was born May 3, 1946 in Mower County to Anthony J. Harter and Virginia A. Laessig. He graduated in 1964 from Adams High School in Adams, Minnesota. He served in the U. S. Army in Vietnam. Al married Sharyn M. Klomstad on June 17, 1972. (Children: Paul, Lucas & Carmen)


From the Monitor Review, February 17, 2005:

Alois "Al" Harter, 58, of rural Stewartville died Wednesday, February 9, 2005 from complications of surgery at Rochester Methodist Hospital.

Al was born May 3, 1946 at Adams, MN. He grew up in Adams, a graduate of Adams High School class of 1964. He was employed at IBM in Rochester until 1966, when he entered the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam, and was discharged in 1968, returning to IBM until enrolling in Winona State University. After his marrying Sharyn Klomstad June 17, 1972 in Rochester, the couple moved to Stewartville where he was employed at Lake Center Industries as production and inventory control manager. For the past 25 years he has been a tool and die maker with Professional Instruments of Rochester.

He was also an avid hunter and fisherman, a member of High Forest Planning and Zoning Commission, a member of the American Legion, St. Bernard's Catholic Church, and the American Production and Inventory Control Society as a Fellow.

Surviving relatives include: his wife, Sharyn, who is employed at Rochester Medical of Stewartville; mother, Virginia Harter of Stewartville; sons Paul of Minneapolis, Luke of St Paul; daughter, Carmen at home; brothers Edward (Margo) Harter of Plymouth, Philip (Charlene) Harter of Mankato; and his sister Agnes (James) Morman of Beulah, ND.

Preceding him in death was his father.

Funeral service was held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 13, 2005 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, with Reverend Gregory Havel officiating. Burial was in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Stewartville.

Griffin-Gray Funerl Home was in charge of arrangements.
