Lawrence was first of five, born at home "on kitchen floor", 66 Raymond Avenue, Shelby, Richland County, OH, to James Peter GARDNER SR and Catherine Rose GABRIEL (h&w)

Lawrence was the GRANDSON of John Joseph GABRIEL and Magdalena M. ZEIDLER, who emigrated from Bohemia--John Joseph from Wilkischen and Magdalena M. from Meschowitz; they met in Ohio and married at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Plymouth, Richland County, OH, Nov 04 1874.

Lawrence was the GREAT-GRANDSON of John GABRIEL and Margaret BAUMOEL (h&w) and also the GREAT-GRANDSON of Joseph ZEIDLER and Cathrian MACH (h&w)--none of these four GREAT-GRANDPARENTS ever immigrated into America.

Lawrence enlisted US ARMY 1927-1929 during peace time.

"Larry" was owner of Airmatic Valve Inc., employing up to 80, held 66 patents in USA, England, Canada, South Africa, Belgium, Italy, and Switzerland (Billings Gazette (MT) Aug 06 1977 page 12-A) for hydraulic valves and cylinders. Larry retired to Bozeman, Gallatin County, MT.

A philanthropist: He donated the GARDNER WING at The Museum of The Rockies, Bozeman, MT which features Native American heritage.

Backer of adult baseball teams in Class A leagues in Cleveland, Lakewood, Parma, and Akron OH, Lawrence was awarded the National Backer of the Year 1967 honor by the American Amateur Baseball Congress (The Plain Dealer, Cleveland OH, Aug 10 1977 Page 6-F).

Grand Knight of Queen of Peace Lodge of Knights of Columbus (Catholic fraternity).

Siblings: Leo John (1913-1956), James Jr. (1916-1979), Henry Joseph (1919-1964), Mary Catherine (1925-1925).
