MR. J. P LANDRUM YIELDS TO THE GRIM REAPER

After being in feeble health for several years, Mr. John Pearl Reuben Landrum peacefully passed into the great beyond at his home on Long Street, in this city, Monday morning, shortly before ten o'clock, at the age of eighty-two years.

Mr. Landrum was a son of Rev. Wm. Bibb Landrum, who for many years was a member of the Kentucky Conference, serving the London Methodist church, both as pastor and as presiding elder of this district, and Julia Anna Pearl Landrum, and was born August 26, 1918(sic)*, the oldest of a family of four boys and two girls, only one of whom, Mr. A. J. Landrum, of Mt. Vernon, survives him.

Practically all of Mr. Landrum's long life was sent in Laurel County, either at the old home place near Oakley, or in London, where he has made his home for several years. Until his age prevented his carrying on in that work, Mr. Landrum devoted his years to trading** and farming. In his younger days he was an extensive trader, and before the coming of the railroad, he would drive great droves of mules to the markets in North and South Carolina, and take sheep and hogs north.

He was married February 22nd, 1881 to Miss Lucy Wyatt, in Laurel County, who preceded him to the grave in 1922, and to this union were born eight children, two of whom died in infancy. The surviving children are Mrs. Ollie Lucas, of Glendale, California; Messrs. J. N. and W. B. Landrum, of Harlan, KY; Mrs. Emma Landrum Creech, of Danville, KY and Miss Julia Francis Landrum and Mr. Hendrix Landrum, of London, who maintained a home for their father during his last years.

Mr. Landrum was a lifelong member of the M. E. Church South, and funeral services were conducted in that church Wednesday afternoon by Rev. P. C. Eversole, attended by a large number of sorrowing friends. Burial was in the Landrum graveyard at Oakley.

Among those from a distance for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Landrum, of Mt. Vernon; Mr. and Mrs. Cort Mullins, Mr. and Mrs. Hansford Landrum, and Miss Veronica Thompson, of Hamilton, Ohio; Miss Julia Landrum, of Mt. Vernon, KY; Misses Pearl and Ruth Landrum, of Louisville and all of Mr. Landrum's children, except Mrs. Ollie Lucas, of California.
