Bill was a Private First Class in the US Army Infanty in Feb. 17, 1943. He was captured in Tunisa and lived in Camp Stalag 2B. He was liberated when the camp closed 31 May 1945. Bill talked about how he used to perfect standing on his head while in the POW camp. He demonstrated his ability nearly 20 years later when visiting his cousin.

PHOENIX, Ariz. - Funeral services for William G. Layman, 73,of Phoenix, a Steubenville resident until 1964, will be held Friday at 9:30: a.m. in Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Mr. Layman died April 28, 1992, in a Phoenix hospital. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Betty"; two sons, Thomas and William Jr; and one sister, Caroline Sweeney of Toronto. He was born Feb. 6, 1919, in Steubenville. A daughter, Susan, and a son, James, and several brothers and sisters preceded him in death.
