Charlie J. Barnes
Charlie J. Barnes, 72, of Laurel died Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011, at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Memory Chapel of Laurel with burial to follow at Edon Cemetery in Jasper County. Rev. Freddie Odom will officiate. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday at Memory Chapel.
Mr. Barnes grew up in Stringer and lived in Laurel the past 10 years. He retired from Murphy Oil and Jones County School Maintenance.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Alice Barnes; father O. O. Barnes; sisters Garnett Holifield and Margie Crawley; brothers W. K. Barnes and Orlan Barnes; and his special pet that was buried Friday, "Sophie."
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Aundrea Barnes; daughters and sons-in-law, Renee (Sonny) Hudson, Kellie (Duane) White, Cara (Jimmy) Wilkerson, and Laura (Ronnie) White; grandchildren Brandon, Hunter and Meagan Hudson, Landon, Laken and Logan White, Jeremy, Josh and Jared Wilkerson, and K. C., Kayla and Tristian White; one great-grandchild, Kody White; a host of nieces and nephews; and sisters Merle Lightsey of Pearl, Doris Davis of Bay Springs and Kay Butterfield of Florida.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be William Barnes, Ted Lightsey, H. L. Strickland and Fred Johnson.
Memory Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
