He is survived by two daughters, Terri Hanyok and her husband Philip of Savanna, Georgia, and Constance Frownfelter Brooks and husband Dave of Newport: two sisters, Beatrice Weller and Pauline Lupher and husband Charlie; two grandchildren: Jeremiah Trout and Kristen Johns as well as six great-grandchildren; Jaric Zander, Cassett Elizabeth and Teagan Hunter Trout, and Brooklyn Rae, Madilynn Jane, Kourtlynn Marie Johns.
He was a 1949 graduate of New Bloomfield High School and a member of the St. Mathews by the Sea United Methodist Church, Fenwick Island, Delaware.
Clair "Frownie" was a veteran of the United States Army, serving as an instructor in the Anti-aircraft and Guided Missiles Branch in El Paso, Texas. After serving in the Army, Frownie was employed by Carlisle Tire and Rubber and Frownfelter's Greenhouse, in which he operated with his parents. During this time he also started a poultry business which would become his lifelong profession. He expanded the operation by purchasing several more farms and diversifying into raising turkeys until retirement in 1997.
A true animal lover, horses became a passion. Frownie started Country Road Farms in 1971 which became a successful hunter jumper stable. The stable became home to some of the top horses winning various awards including horse of the year in Pennsylvannia, New Jersey and New York.
Frownie and Jane relished the time they spent with their family in Fenwick Island, DE and Pine Knoll Shores, NC. He and Jane loved the ocean, he enjoyed fishing, boating, as well as other hobbies in retirement. Before Jane passed they fulfilled a mutual dream of traveling across the country in their RV. Clair and his wife Jane looped the United States twice, as well as traveling up the Alaskan Highway to enjoy one of their favorite locations, Alaska. He was a loving and generous husband, father, and grandfather.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 26, 2011 at Boyer Funeral Home, 101 W. Main Street, New Bloomfield with the Rev. Bruce Miller officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will immediately follow in New Bloomfield Cemetery.
