Edward Wasmer Sr. Called to Rest In Town Meeme
Edward Wasmer, Sr., 87, considered the oldest resident in the town of Meeme, died Sunday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Joseph Schwartz, town of Meeme. He had been confined to his bed for the past week and had been ill for some time.
He was born in France on Oct. 6, 1854, and came to this country with his parents at the age of 16. He worked with his father in the butcher trade and in 1879 married Miss Mary Fischer, the late Rev. Mutz of St. Nazianz officiating. The couple moved to Springfield, Ill., where Mr. Wasmer worked as a coal miner and seven years later returned to Manitowoc county, settling on a farm in the town of Meeme, where he lived until eight years ago when he moved to his daughter's home.
Survivors are his widow, and the following children, Joseph, Mrs. Joseph Schwartz and Mrs. Albert Loos, .town of Meeme, Mrs. Frank Herr, Sr., Mrs. Alvin Herman and Edward, Jr., this city. A daughter, Mrs. Frank Schwartz, and a son, Anthony, preceded him in death. He is also survived by 40 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock at the home, Newton, Route 1, and at 9:15 o'clock at St. Fidelas church, the Rev. Edward Wagner officiating with burial in Holy Cross cemetery.
