Marian E. Eriksson, age 92, of Sandwich, IL formerly of Somonauk, IL passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2003 at Dogwood Health Care Center in Sandwich, IL. She was born October 26, 1910 in Kendall County, IL, the daughter of Fred and Bertha (Bengtson) Arvidson.
Marian was a 1928 graduate of Somonauk High School. She went on to attend Northern Illinois State Teachers College for one year. In 1934 Marian married Gosta (Gus) Eriksson on December 16, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Chicago, IL and they spent 35 years together farming and raising their children always keeping family first priority. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and baking for family and friends. She made baptismal napkins for church for several years. She had a special love for the Sandwich Fair and attended over 60 years in a row without missing.
Marian also taught as a county school teacher for eight years at Freeland and Hubbard Schools, retiring in 1937. She was a long time member of the Salem Lutheran Church in Sandwich and also a member of Mary Circle.
Survivors include her sons, Jon (Judy) Eriksson of Somonauk, IL, Philip (Karon) Eriksson of Twin Lake, WI, her daughters, Joanne (Ronald) Ziska of Tampa, FL, Marlene (Everett Kinter) Davis of Rochester, MN, Linell (Michael) Killus of Vista, CA, seven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, three step great-grandchildren, her sister Ruth Fanning of Sandwich, IL, brother-in-law Borje Eriksson of Sweden and sister-in-law Ingegerd Ericsson of Sweden and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband Gosta (Gus) Eriksson in 1970, her sister Ebba Stahl and her brother Bengt Arvidson.
A visitation will be held from noon until 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2003 at the Salem Lutheran Church, Sandwich. The funeral service for Marian will start at 2 p.m. with Rev. Carol Gates officiating. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Sandwich, IL.
