Lulu Lillian Lucille Ruehle was born July 17, 1910 to Edwin and Ella (Hertwig) Bigelow at Lena, Wisconsin. She received her education in Oconto Falls, Wisconsin. Lulu was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith.
On March 23, 1926 Lulu was united in marriage to Clarence (Hi) Ruehle in Gillette, Wisconsin. To this union six children were born.
At the beginning of the Great Depression the family moved to a farm south of Ruthven where they lived until purchasing a farm north of town in 1940. Clarence died in 1989.
Lulu was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church. She was also very active in the Lake Center School where she helped organize the Parent Teacher Organization. Lulu served as a Girls 4-H leader for a few years.
She enjoyed traveling, reading and cooking. She loved crocheting and knitting but most of all getting together for big family gatherings.
Lulu died Tuesday, March 27, 2007 at her home in Ruthven, Iowa, at the age of 96. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clarence; a son, Donald who died in 1992; two grandsons, Joe Peterson and Jeff Ruehle; a great granddaughter, Emma Harmon; daughter-in-law, Marge Ruehle; and son-in-law, Jerry Peterson.
She is survived by her children, Bruce Ruehle and his wife, Jean of Ruthven, IA, Eugene Ruehle and his wife, Shirley of White Bear Lake, MN, Phyllis Peterson and friend, Cliff Harris of Ruthven, IA, Gerald Ruehle and his wife, Kay of Ruthven, IA, and Janice Menefee and her husband, Terry of Milford, IA; daughter-in-law, Ardyce Dodge and her husband, Arnold; twenty three grandchildren; forty four great grandchildren; seventeen great-great grandchildren; brothers, Milton Bigelow and Neil Bigelow; sisters, Abbie Barazcz, Betty Krumrei and Carol Rice; as well as many other relatives and friends.
