1993 Apr 5 Mon p.B4 Marjorie Louise Gurley Adkins,53,of 110 Wellington Road,died April 2,1993,in St.Mary's Hospital,Milwaukee,Wis. A native of Spartanburg,she was the wife of Robert Adkins Sr.and daughter of the late James Nelson and Helen Chapman Gurley. She was a Baptist. She was a retired epidemiology consultant at Mary Black Memorial Hospital. She was active in organ procurement through the South Carolina Organ Procurement Agency and the Lions Club. She was a charter member of the Spartanburg County AIDS Task Force and a member of the Palmetto AIDS Life Support Services Buddies Program,National League of Nursing,American Heart Association,National and Palmetto Associations for Infection Control Practitioners,Mental health Association of Spartanburg County,International Society for AIDS Education,AIDS Support Network of Spartanburg,Association of Nursing Endorsing Transplantation,Executive Committee of Association of Nursing Endorsing Transplantation and Health Planning Commission of Spartanburg. She was Infection Control Practitioner of the Year in 1991. Also surviving are a daughter,Robbie Teague of Wellford;two sons,Robert A.Adkins Jr.of Opelika,Ala.,and James Franklin Adkins of Spartanburg;a sister,Peggy Vincent of Roanoke Rapids,N.C.;her stepmother,Betty Gurley of Mayo;two stepbrothers,Ronnie and Mike Gurley of Mayo;and grandchildren. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 tonight at the Bobo Funeral Chapel. Services will be at 1 p.m.Tuesday at the funeral chapel by the Revs.Gary Adkins and James Crocker. Burial will be in Piedmont Baptist Church Cemetery,Rutherfordton,N.C. The family is at the home of her daughter,Robbie Teague,4 Oak Ridge Road,Wellford.
