Steinert
John Fred Steinert, son of Geo. Steinert and his wife, Margaret nee Ehrlich, was born August 22, 1860 in Eckheim, Russia. In his infancy he was consecrated unto the Lord in holy baptism. He renewed his baptismal vow at his confirmation.

When 18 years of age, he, in company with his parents, four brothers and two sisters, came to this country and settled in Russell County, Kansas, February 9, 1878. On December 14, 1882 he married Miss Eva Dumler, now sainted Rev. H. Krause, then of Ellinwood, officiating in the marriage. This union God blessed with four sons and three daughters.

Mr. Steinert devoted his life to farming until 1919 he and his wife moved to Galatia, where he spent the remainder of his years in retirement.

On Sunday, July 1, he was taken to the St. Rose Hospital in Great Bend, to seek treatment for cancer of the intestines, an ailment of long standing, which proved too far advanced for treatment, and on July 16, at 5:30 in the evening, God called him into eternal rest. He reached the age of 74 years, 10 months and 24 days.

He is survived by his sorrowing wife, his four sons: Emanuel, Route 2; George K. Steinert, Galatia; Ed Steinert, Galatia; David Steinert, Route 2 of Russell; his three daughters, Lydia, wife of John K. Nuss, Russell, Route 2; Catherine, wife of Jacob Nuss, Galatia, Route 1; Emily, wife of Peter Nuss of Galatia; 23 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; five brothers, George Steinert of Galatia; Conrad of Milberger; Jacob of Russell, Route 2; Fred of Galatia, Route 1; Reinhardt of Russell Route 2; two sisters, Mrs. Michael Dumler of Russell; Mrs. Fred Morgenstern of Galatia, route 2.

July 18 at 2 o'clock in the afternoon a brief service was conducted at the home of the deceased in Galatia, whereupon the mortal remains were conveyed to the Missouri Synod Church at Milberger, where the pastor of the congregation, E. H. L. Frese, basing his German sermon on Deuteronomy 1:21 and the English address on Job 7:16, spoke words of comfort and admonition. As the close of the service the body was viewed by a large number of mourners ___________ set to rest in the Milberger Cemetery.

Emanuel, George, Ed, and David the four sons of the departed; John K. Nuss and Jacob Nuss, sons-in-law carried the body to the grave.
