Jane is my 3rd great-grandmother.

James and Jane DOYLE Collins came to the United States from Ireland in 1849 and settled in Cincinnati, Ohio. James was first a drayman and then owned a furniture store. James and Jane had 10 or 11 children.

Jane is my 3rd great grandmother. Jane moved to Iowa with her daughter's family Asa and Isabelle Lander COLLINS Gibbs in the early 1880s when she was in her 70s. In 1885 she was living in Ell, Hancock County, Iowa with her daughter Isabelle who was married to Asa Gibbs. I am not certain that she is buried in the Klemme Cemetery but other members of the large Gibbs family are. There is a good chance she is there. Please e-mail me with any information on Jane Doyle Collins or Isabelle Collins Gibbs.

According to census records, Jane was born around 1813 although her stone says she was born in 1804. I am not sure which is correct but if she had been born in 804 then she would have been 28 when her eldest child, Charlotte, was born. I have found discrepancies in birth dates and dates on headstones, but one it is carved and the money has been paid, stonecutters cannot always fix their errors. It is also possible that her family gave the wrong date to the stonecutter. I can say for sure that Jane was born in Ireland in the early 1800s. I wish I knew more about her.

Here are her other children. I have not been able to find out much about them:
Anna Collins - Born Ireland, 1836. Married James Madison Steward 1862. He died 1866. Three daughters - Effie May (1863-1938 never married) Emma Jane (1865-1922) Both are buried Forest Home Cemetery Leland Winnebago County Iowa; neither one married. And Nettie (? - July 7, 1868 - burial unknown)

Eliza Collins - Born Ireland, 1838, death after 1885, burial / marriage unknown

Emma Collins - Born Ireland, 1842. Married John Conover (he boarded with the family in 1860. He died of typhoid pneumonia March 2, 1877, in Illinois and is buried in Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati, Ohio. Do not know when she died nor where she is buried.

Edward Collins - Born Ireland, 1844; died 1920 in Iowa. Married to Mary (1870 census) or Elizabeth from FAG record.

Henry "Harry" - Born Ireland, 1846. 1880 census shows him living in Olney, Illinois with his sister, Emma COLLINS Conover. I don't find him after that.

James - Born Ireland, 1848. Married Mary S. in 1876. 1900 census show them living in Connorsville, Indiana. Note that James Collins from Ireland are fairly common and the residence and marriage information could be for another James Collins. None of their children are named for family members which makes the latter part suspect.

Martha - Born Ohio, 1849. Named, I believe, for her aunt, Martha Doyle. I believe Martha died before 1860 since she does not show up on later census records.
