Calvary Baptist Church:
Beryl Stauffer – Calvary Baptist Charter Member (1933)
The old bell located outside the entryway to our church was originally in the Eugene Field School (located in Neosho across from the old Smith Brothers garment factory). Charter members Vera Nalley and Beryl Stauffer, who were 2nd cousins, bought it when the school was being remodeled and donated it to Calvary Baptist. It was hung in the old bell tower in Calvary's church located on Spring Street. When the church moved to Calvary's next location on 903 South Street, the eleven resident charter members (including Beryl Stauffer) provided funds for the setting of the cornerstone and bell in August 1983 at the South Street church location. Finally, the bell was moved to Calvary's current location here on Oakridge extension, Neosho MO.
• Beryl is our only living charter member and is an excellent testimony of the heritage that came before us.
• She is not prideful and prefers not to be singled out for recognition, but we felt it appropriate to do that anyway. Here a few things she has done for our church.
• She was a Sunday school teacher.
• She was church librarian.
• She was a Royal Ambassador leader.
• She hosted training class meetings at her farm home (SW Neosho).
• She and her mother (Mrs. C.A. Stauffer) hosted church ice cream socials at their home as a way to welcome new members to the church.
• She has faithfully tithed all her life since her very first earnings.
• And, she provided much of the information for our upcoming 75th anniversary celebration from pictures and articles in scrapbooks made by her and her mother. The scrapbooks have been donated to the church.
• We love her and appreciate all that she had done for Calvary and we appreciate her continuing worship with us. She is in Norrie Melton's Sunday School class. That class loves being together so much that, in addition to their weekly S.S. class, they meet once a month at one of the member's homes to have fellowship and, of course, a little food.

Personal Notes:
Beryl was such a great person. She had a fun-loving and adventurous spirit, and was a wonderful letter writer. She would send these letters in her perfect tiny writing with tons of detail about things going on in the lives of those surrounding her. Those details gave a picture of her daily life. Our family treasures those letters.

In her later years, she and her sister Bettie, lived together in a small home in Neosho, on Maple Street. When our grandmother fell ill and could no longer live in her home in Joplin, Belva Lett LaRue went to live with Bettie and Beryl, her nieces. Better care could not have been provided for her. They adored her and loved her stories and appreciated Bettie's care of the flowers and garden at their home, and the needlework at which Beryl was so adept. As Belva loved flowers and sewing, the three were a good fit. Our family can never thank the two of them enough for their care of our grandmother.
