He was a son of John Bailey and Elizabeth Wilson.
He worked most of his life as a farmer. He died in the Old Soldiers Home in Raleigh of pneumonia following influenza at age 84.
William Bailey was described in his obituary as " a good and useful citizen". He was a farmer. Though he had been at the Old Soldiers Home in Raleigh for a number of years, many of his relatives, friends and neighbors showed up for his funeral services conducted at Salem church by the Rev. W.K. Houk. He was laid to rest in the churchyard on a bitter winter day. The fact that so many people attended the funeral despite inclement weather is testimony of their respect for W.A. Bailey.
Surviving Mr. Bailey were his second wife, 5 daughters, and 1 son. His oldest son, R.I. Bailey, died several years previously.
