Thank you to FindaGrave contributor Brent Clark for providing links to William's parents and the years of his marriages to Flora and Marilla.

FAG member Cherie Officer has found William's obit in The Olean (NY) Democrat, Thursday, May 2, 1892 Page 5. His obit is much more fitting than anything I can do or go to www.portvillehistory.org to read a complete bio. taken from Lyman, Horton & Co's (limited) Historical Gazetteer & Biographical Memorials of Cattaraugus County, Ed. by, Wm. Adams, 1893, PP 1021-1024(the sketch was written by his daughter, Miss Lilla C. Wheeler). He was a remarkable man and one of the pioneer leaders of the Portville community.

NOTE: Some researchers feel his middle name was France. I have changed it a couple of times now from France to French and back to France. Most sources show French, including the Portville Historical and Preservation Society and I am going to leave it, once and for all as, French.
