Orangeburg - Richard Bruce Berry, 90, of 14 Hawthorne Trail, Orangeburg, died Thursday, Nov. 26, 2009, at the Regional Medical Center. A memorial service, conducted by the Rev. Kristen Richardson-Frick, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Born in Orangeburg, Mr. Berry's parents were C. Clifford and Annie Mackay Berry. He was preceded in death by a brother, C.C. Berry Jr. and sister, Frances Tomlinson Cox. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Rose Herbert Berry and by three sons and daughters-in-law, Richard Bruce Berry Jr. (Elizabeth), David Herbert Berry (Susan), and Charles Clifford Berry (Donna). He is also survived by seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Berry served in the Army during both World War II and the Korean Conflict, retiring from the Army Reserves as a major. He also retired as a supervisor from the U.S. Postal Service. After retirement, he built and operated the first mini-storage warehouses in Orangeburg, which he sold in order to travel, play golf, spend time in their Saluda, N.C. mountain retreat, and enjoy his 29 years of retirement. As a life long member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Mr. Berry served many years as a Blue Hatter as well as in other capacities. He was also a member of the Masonic Order. The family would like to thank his caring doctors, Dr. Vann Beth Shuler and especially Dr. Mark Krzyston and his staff. Also thanks to the Reverend Kristen Richardson-Frick and his other ministers who provided loving spiritual care to both him and his family through the many different hospital visits and at home. The family will receive friends in the Church Parlor following the memorial service. The family also suggests that memorials be made to either St. Paul's United Methodist Church or The Methodist Oaks. Dukes-Harley Funeral Home of Orangeburg is assisting the family. © The Times and Democrat, Orangeburg, SC, 27 Nov 2009
