Visitation will be held Saturday, from 5-7:30 p.m., at Hohlt & File Funeral Home in Vandalia, followed by a celebration of his life at 7:30 p.m., also at the funeral home. Mike will be cremated, with a private burial at Fairlawn Cemetery at a later date. Memorials: Good Samaritan SSM Hospice in Mt. Vernon.
Mike was born in Kansas City, Mo., Dec. 26, 1961, but grew up in Vandalia, Ill., where he attended grade school and high school. Following an automobile accident, he moved to Mt. Vernon, where he lived with his mother and stepfather for many wonderful years until the time of his death.
Mike is survived by his mother and stepfather, Kay and Chuck Hammonds of Mt. Vernon; a brother, Mark Trexler of Tucson, Ariz.; two sisters, Micki Makovic and Melissa Hand, both of Tucson, Ariz.; two nieces; six nephews; aunts; uncles; and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Larry Trexler; maternal grandparents, Leonard and Eva Bowles; and paternal grandparents, Floyd and Evelyn Trexler.
Mike attended Mother of Dolors Church in Vandalia and Central Christian Church in Mt. Vernon.
He had a wonderful sense of humor and always had a smile on his face. He loved rock-n-roll music and WWE wrestling, and was happiest with a cup of coffee in his hand.
Mike was loved by many and will be missed by all who know and loved him. He will be remembered for the joy he gave those who were apart of this life.
