James S. Armiger
Many boyhood ambitions can come
true in a lifetime, as James S. Armiger,
who died Saturday night at the age
of 83, Baltimore's oldest commission
merchant, would say. One ambition
of his as a boy in Anne Arundel
county, to become a Sheriff, was ful-
filled, and another when he became
a member of the Harbor Board under
Mayor Preston.
More than fifty years ago Mr. Armi-
ger and his brother, Josiah C., went
into the commission business on a
small scale. After an uphill struggle
the business was established. Josiah
Armiger has been dead seven years.
Mr. Armiger's business address was
118 Market Place.
Many of his coworkers and other
friends will attend his funeral at 3
P.M. tomorrow at the home at 1700
East Twenty-eighth street. Burial will
be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Armiger was a widower. His
wife, Mrs. Alice Armiger, a native of
Anne Arundel, died many years ago.
One son, Ernest O. Armiger, of 48 East
Twenty-fifth street, survives.
