Roman Catholic Pope. Anterus served as Pope from November 21, 235 until his death on January 3, 236. It is thought that he was martyred for having ordered a collection of the acts of the Martyrs to be made and included in the archives of the church. He was the first Pope to be buried in the Catacombs of Saint Callistus. In the 16th century what was left of his ashes were removed to the Church of San Silvestro in Capite at the direction of Pope Clement VIII.
