Walter Peck Rites Wednesday

Walter Peck, a member of a pioneer Washington County family, died Monday, November 21 at the Leptien Nursing Home in Blair due to the complications of old age. He was ill only a very short time before his death.

Mr. Peck was born at Belle Plaine, Iowa on February 1, 1868, and came to Washington County at the age of eleven with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon Peck, early settlers in this area.

On September 13, 1899, he was married to Lula Carter of Blair, who preceded him in death in 1930. His only son, Lucian, died in 1931.

Surviving Mr. Peck are his daughter, Mrs. Roy Watkins (Blanche) of Tekamah, four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Other survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Blanche Warrick of Blair and Mrs. Bertha Gollehon of Lincoln, and four brothers, Ben of Blair, Fred of Herman, Ray of Omaha, and George of Des Moines, Iowa.

Although he had been blind since the age of thirty years, Mr. Peck always maintained a cheerful spirit, and never let his handicap keep him from enjoying life or his family. He and his family were united with the Methodist Church during the 1920's.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Campbell Mortuary with the Rev. Melvon Ireland officiating. Burial was in the Blair Cemetery. Pallbearers were 6 nephews, William and Cecil Peck and four Warrick brothers.
